A Mastercard® prepaid card is a smart and cost-effective alternative to carrying cash and paying cheque-cashing fees. Because it's a pre-funded card, you only spend the money you load on it.

No. To spend money, you must pre-load funds onto your card. When you use your Opt+ card, the amount of each transaction - including any applicable service fees - will be deducted from your account balance.

It's a pretty simple process. Here's a basic rundown of how it works!

First, you need to purchase a prepaid card.

Once you receive your card, you will need to activate it.

After you activate your card, you can load money onto it.

With money loaded, you're free to start spending.

Reload and repeat!

Just like a bank card, you can choose to make PIN or signature purchases with a prepaid card. Just swipe your card and either enter your PIN, or select "credit" to sign for your transaction.

Using an Opt+ card is simple! You can load money onto your card at any Cash Money location. Then use your card to make purchases and pay bills. The amount of each purchase will be deducted from your loaded balance.

Opt+ cards can be purchased at Cash Money stores and right here on our website using our secure online form. To qualify for a card, you must be 16 years of age or over and be a permanent resident of Canada.

You will also need:

A physical address

A valid Canadian government issued photo ID

Your new personalized Opt+ Mastercard® card will arrive in the mail by Canada Post within approximately within 7-10 business days. If you do not receive your card within this timeframe, please contact Opt+ Customer Care at 1-855-403-8343.

Once you receive your new personalized card in the mail you should sign the back then activate it immediately online or by calling 1-855-403-8343.

If your card is lost or stolen, please call us immediately. You can contact us 24/7 at 1-855-403-8343.

If you do not recognize a transaction when reviewing your account online, try to match up the transaction amount with your receipts. Sometimes merchant names will show up different than the actual name of the store. If you still believe that the transaction is incorrect you may file a dispute. Contact us at 1-855-403-8343 for assistance.

To change your PIN, log in to your online Opt+ account at www.optpluscard.ca. Once you've logged in, select Update Profile and choose Change Card PIN Number.

Yes! Registered Opt+ Mastercard® cards can be used to obtain cash from any ATM that has the Mastercard®, Maestro®, or Cirrus® logo. Fees apply to each ATM transaction, in addition to any fees the ATM owner may charge.

Yes. Just like a bank ATM card, there is a limit. The Opt+ prepaid Mastercard® withdrawal limit is $1,000 per day, with a maximum of 4 withdrawals and a maximum of $300 per withdrawal.

Opt+ prepaid cards are accepted worldwide wherever Mastercard® is accepted.

Yes! Your Opt+ card can be used anywhere Mastercard® prepaid cards are accepted, including online and over-the-phone purchases.

Yes; we recommend you prepay inside. If paying at the pump, there will be a $75 hold on your funds to ensure your card has enough funds to cover your gas purchase. If your card doesn't have a $75 balance, it will be declined. By paying for your gasoline inside, only the actual purchase amount will be withdrawn from your Card balance.

Yes. Just check with the company that is accepting the payment to see if they accept Mastercard® cards and follow their payment instructions. A pre-authorization means that a temporary hold is placed on a portion of your funds over and above the actual purchase amount until the merchant settles the transaction - usually within 3 days. During this time these funds will not be available to you to make additional purchases or ATM cash withdrawals.

To set up or change your alerts, simply log in to your online account and click on Alerts in the left-hand column.

You will be required to select your PIN when you register or activate your Opt+ prepaid Mastercard® online or by phone. You should not write or keep your PIN with your card. To change your PIN, log in to your online account or call Customer Care at no charge.

Your Opt+ card will only be accepted if your card has enough money loaded to cover the transaction.
